My Story

How exercises emphasizing perfect form and control from the core helped me to heal my chronic back pain and do things I never thought possible…

From Sick to Healed

I had chronic back pain for over almost two decades and spent THOUSANDS trying to fix it, but nothing seemed to work for long.

At my lowest point I was carrying a massage cane everywhere with me and couldn’t sit down or stand for more than 20 minutes without pain.

I was overweight, depressed, and defeated. I felt trapped by my own body!

I was at rock bottom, but my pain motivated me to push harder for a solution and take back control.

After years of education, research, and application I developed an approach toward physical fitness that places stability above all else.

Now, my chronic lower back pain has been GONE since 2019 and I am able to do things I never thought possible.

My journey away from back pain taught me that frequent, low to moderate intensity workouts that focus on precision and control are better for my body in the long run.

How It Started…

I began my career in the fitness industry as an instructor at a popular kickboxing gym, then went on to lead my own group class at New York Sports Club, where I also worked as a personal trainer (I was even a featured trainer on News12!) High Intensity workouts were my jam.

I wanted to go hard and encouraged people to do the same. It wasn’t long before my aches and pains began to get worse and I realized I needed to take a step back and listen to my body or my career would be on the line.

Cummulative Injury and Increasing Pain

L5-S1 Disc Degeneration

MRIs showed I had disc degeneration at L5-S1 and I was also diagnosed as having functional scoliosis by a physical therapist. I had poor posture and poor movement patterns and I was doing serious damage by adding fast, high power, high intensity, and heavy weight to a faulty foundation.

I felt cornered. How could I keep off fat, build muscle, and maintain my conditioning levels without the high intensity workouts? Despite my fear, I knew I had to change what I was doing. Over the next four years my perspective on fitness completely shifted.

Enter Pilates….

I implemented and experimented with techniques from leaders in the fields of Yoga, Pilates Method, Manual Therapy, Rehabilitation, Neurology, Calisthenics, Egoscue Method, Feldenkrais Method, Gymnastics, Dance, and Strength Training among others.

My clients and I began to experiment with some of these techniques, becoming our own detectives in partnership. Together, we have deepened our relationships to our bodies. A term I call “embodiment.”

My clients began to show great results and improvements. We inspire each other to continue exploring and deepening our relationship to take back control of our minds and bodies, avoid injuries, minimize and better manage musculoskeletal pain using methods that we have co-created.

I dove into learning from the best minds in biomechanics to understand what was going on with my body.

My Education and Experience

In 2019, I completed one of the most difficult fitness certifications - the Corrective Exercise Program with the National Academy of Sports Medicine, led by Master Instructor Dr. Richard Richey.

In 2022, I completed the Stott Pilates Mat Program - again, one of the most difficult certifications of its kind - and received a near perfect score on the anatomy exam.

The same year, I also began private training in Classical Reformer Pilates with Maggie Amrhein, owner of The Pilates Center of Long Island. Maggie was certified by Romana Kryzanowska, direct protege of Joseph Pilates himself.

I am inspired by leaders in the world of biomechanics and kinetics such as Dr. Thomas Myers, manual therapist, researcher, and author of the cutting edge myofascial guidebook “Anatomy Trains.”

How It’s Going…

Sharing My Passion

I am currently busy spreading the word about my approach to fitness that I believe unlocks our ability to self-heal and stay active for the longest time possible. The key: frequent, low to moderate intensity workouts that focus on precision and control.

Exciting New Pursuits

I am promoting workplace wellness programs at foward-thinking companies including Veralon Consulting and VJ Technologies, both in New York. To learn more about my workplace wellness programs, click below.

My musculoskeletal pain is under more control than ever. Despite my fears, through my new approach I was able to maintain a lean body composition, become stronger than before, and develop control and coordination that I never thought possible for myself.
